Flagyl is a brand-name prescription antimicrobial used to treat bacterial infections of the heart, blood, nervous system, gastrointestinal (GI) tract, lungs, joints, bones, and skin. Extended-release metronidazole is commonly prescribed to treat bacterial vaginosis and sexually transmitted infections such as trichomoniasis.
As an antimicrobial, Flagyl cannot be used to treat viral infections. If Flagyl is being used to treat a sexually transmitted infection (like trichomoniasis), both sex partners should use the medication simultaneously. This helps reduce the risk of reinfection in either partner. Antimicrobials stop the growth of harmful microorganisms in the body, so simultaneous use in both partners of metronidazole will help prevent the infection from living on and being passed between partners.
Flagyl is supplied as an oral tablet or extended-release capsule. It contains the drug metronidazole, which is available in generic form. Flagyl is only available via prescription from a licensed healthcare provider.

I have had this issue for the past two years with my son's recent antibiotic use. He's been on it for four days now, so I'm not sure if it's due to my poor diet or because he's been eating too much, or just a side effect.
I was prescribed Flagyl with my doctor in 2007 and my doctor was told the medication was not effective for me, so my dose of it was decreased until it started to work. I took it twice a day and I'm hoping to get a better result at the end of the day. My son was on a Flagyl for the past 10 days. He's also been on it for the past 2 days and hasn't been able to take it for over two weeks.
I'm wondering if any of you have experience with this?
Thanks!

I was on Flagyl for the past two days. This morning I was given a "side effect" that made my blood pressure drop and I was put on 500 mg of it. The dose went up to 600 mg per day and I'm not sure if it's caused by my poor diet or because I have been eating too much, but I was on 500 mg every day. I also took 200 mg of it twice a day for the past two days and it was working well. I have to say, I'm not scared of this dose. I just want to know if there's a difference in taking it.
Thanks, Jb

I take 400 mg of it every day, and my blood pressure is 100/90. I have also been taking the Flagyl for the past 10 days, and my blood pressure is still high. I don't know if this is related to my food intake, or if I've been drinking too much, or just another side effect from the medication. I was told that I can take it if I don't have enough to drink. I've tried to stay on the lower dose, but it's getting a little more powerful. I'm not sure if it's due to the medication or if I just want to get back on the lower dose. I'll definitely try my best to get back on the lower dose and have my family on the right track! Thanks again for your help, Jb

I think that the problem is that I am taking a high dose of Flagyl for a long time, and I can't get my blood pressure to fall. I also am taking 400 mg of it every day, but I only feel good when I am on the lower dose. I'm also taking it for a week, and it just keeps going up. I also have blood pressure that is a little low and it's not a good thing for me to take the higher dose. I'm also taking the Flagyl daily. It's been working pretty well, but I think I need to take it every day for a week or two for sure. My blood pressure is still very high and I don't know if it's caused by my diet, or if I just have the side effect of eating too much.
I just wanted to share this, and tell you what I have done to help. I was on Flagyl for a long time, and my blood pressure was getting really low. It was not a big deal, but I was on a low dose, and my blood pressure was getting really low. I also had to take the high dose of Flagyl because I am taking it for a long time. I have now been on the high dose for over two months now, and the blood pressure is now going to be falling. I am now going to see my doctor for an evaluation, and then I can take the Flagyl again. I think I am going to continue the high dose, but if it works well for you, that is a good thing for me. Thanks again, Jb
